"The Heart of Roseville"
The City of Roseville humbly began as a small group of businesses built up around the local railroad depot. These businesses sprang up along Atlantic and Pacific Streets and eventually, thanks to railroad facility expansions, spread to Lincoln, Main, Church and Vernon Streets. Roseville today is the result of continuous outward growth from these "downtown" locations.
Throughout the 20th century the development of major improvements such as Interstate 80 gradually pulled the focus away from the Downtown area. Consequently, the area beginning to lose its identity as the center of Roseville.
In 1995, the City Council identified the revitalization of Downtown Roseville as a key objective for the City. In February 1999, the City Council established the Central Roseville Revitalization Committee (CRRC). One of the earliest efforts of the CRRC was to develop a Revitalization Strategy for Downtown Roseville. The strategy focused on a number of items including: physical improvements, business recruitment, and marketing programs. The CRRC changed its name to the Roseville Revitalization Committee (RRC) in 2006.
A vision for Downtown Roseville:
Downtown Roseville is a prosperous and vibrant destination. Its pedestrian-friendly environment links a mix of retail and residential uses with parks, public plazas, the creekwalk, and cultural resources. Downtown is a place for the community and visitors to gather for festive events and celebrations. It is a place where people want to go, stay, and play – morning, noon, and night.
